What Inspires me in Life by Destiny S.

What inspires me in life is my nephew Maliki and my son Wylder. I honestly did not know what I wanted or dreamed of before them. They made me a better person, and I could not be more thankful for that.

When I got out of high school, I was clueless. I did not know what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. I was lost. I started renting a house with my best friend and her boyfriend. As normal, we partied. We had a blast living together. My mom always said “never live with your friends. It always ruins your friendships.” Boy was she right. After eight months, we lost interest in living with one another.  Friends then began to just drop like flies. In that week, I lost my roommate’s, my childhood dog had died. It was a rough week.  I had a feeling something was not right with my body.  So, I had the idea to buy a dollar pregnancy test. When it had come back positive, my whole world came to a sudden stop. I could not believe what I was seeing. So, I bought another one, once again a positive. My first instinct was to tell Chris. Chris is my boyfriend. We had a rough start, but I am glad of the way it turned out. He is the love of my life and I would not want it any other way.  Chris was so supportive with our situation.

A couple of days later, I get a phone call from my aunt Jonda needing me to come pick up my ten-month-old nephew Maliki. My sister Daphne had went to prison once again. So being the person I am, I did. I fell in love with Mali. He is such a wonderful kid. He was born addicted to heroin. But that does not stop him from being the best he can be. I got full custody of my nephew.

On December 21st, 2017 my baby boy entered the world. I swear being a mom is the best feeling in the world. I could not imagine my life without him.  It is crazy to love someone so much when knowing nothing about them. You learn to know them. What they like, how they dance, and how they laugh. It is a beautiful thing. He taught me that love is blind. You can feel them, you can talk to them but never see them until the time is right. He taught me patience, love, and most importantly taught me about myself.

Maliki and Wylder inspires me to be the best I can be. They have impacted my life so much it is remarkable. I have worked hard to accomplish my goals get to where I am today because of those two, and it is not going to stop me from working even harder to know they will have a better life. A life they deserve.
