Challenges Facing Organizations in Nigeria.

Challenges Facing Organizations in Nigeria.

There are different types of challenges that face organizations as listed above.

Political Challenges

Politics have been thought and perceived by many scholars in the discipline as exercise of power, the exercise of authority, the allocation of scarce resources, the making of collectives decision, the practice of deception and manipulation and the like.

Looking at the statements above one can easily know that politics application in an organization must  cause many problems in that organization. Though groups or individuals hardly exist without politics. It is part of our every day live.

Looking at exercise of power, many people in organization, especially elected officials who exhibit authocrate uses the power bestowed on them to punish or intimidate those under them.

Another problem is on the allocation of scarce resources some people uses politics to intimidate others and then made sure they get a bigger share more them others. Some go to the extent of eliminating life in order to get what they want.

Some sees their own decision as the final therefore do not allow any other person to put mouth in decision making. When collective decisions are not allowed in an organization it becomes authocratic government rather than democratic government which exists in Nigeria.

Politics allows manipulation of votes during election of officials.

Some officials use politics to manipulate resources thereby creating inequity distribution.

Superiors attend many work shops instead of sending the workers to acquire more knowledge in order to help develop more departments.

Cultural Challenges

Organizational culture is the shared values belief and tradition that exist among individuals in organization (Nwachukwu and Vitell, 1997, Ochein 1985, Weber 1996).

It is the culture that establishes workplace norms of appropriate behaviour.

Organizational culture can aid employee in behaving optimally. It can be a contributing factor in many undersirable behaviour such as unethical decision making, example if top organizational managers consistently engages in unethical behaviour and decision making, it is likely that employees will learn those behaviour as norms and incorporate them in their daily services.

Cultural norms that hinder change must be eliminated.

As important as it is organizational culture has been traditionally ignored during reinstructuring and other changes because there is a general belief that culture can not be changed and many organization do not know how to change their culture. Such organizations remain stagnant as new in- vents are not allowed in to the system.

Reduction of workers and customers if old method are not changed with  new ones; example assuming somebody brings transation which should be quickly prepared with a computer and the organization still prepares it manually, the customer may not come back again because of length of time it will take.

Organizational culture should be  changed from time to time if not progress will be hindered.

Therefore organizational culture that is not amendable causes a lot of problem to the organization.

Social Challenges

We can not talk of social without knowing what the society is all about.

Social Psychology is the scientific study of human behaviour within group setting. It is a known fact that no man can be an island to him self that is man is a social animal.

Group have also been extensively used by psychologist in designing therapies for dealing with maladjustment  cases.

Man is a biological man with possibilities for social organization.

In this organization there are various ways by which problem arise within the organization, but we are dealing  with social problems (challenges)

Competition and inter-group prejudice:-

Prejudice and conflict could result from competition among various groups in an organization, this may result to emotions of jealousy as various individuals and groups strive for one advantage or another over others.

It can lead to inter-group or interpersonal prejudice, hostility and aggression and these can be disastrous to organizational objectives.

In some cases top officials and bosses consciously or unconsciously strive for competence, power and affiliation, they do this to get higher recognition and tries to test this ability within the organization. This brings about role confusions and unstable organization.

Racial Segregation and ethnicity is also a problem of social organization if an organization is over populated problem arises so easily which is turn lead to reduction in productivity.

Gender Challenges

Awareness of gender as a central features of all aspects of every day life and society has become more and more wide spread.

Work for both gender is suppose to be 50/50 but due to special likeness females has for a certain profession such is regarded as female profession as in nursing. Again shift duties in nursing profession favour female due to their off and on nature of work.

The major problems of female workers in organization is how to achieve work life balance and to highlight the need for collective  rights to back up individual choice.

Maternity leave and work time reduction which makes office work not to balance most of the time is another problem thereby hindering the division of labour at a point in time.

Females instead of facing their work compete on dressing.

In most offices female gossip and seductive nature brings about conflict with male counter parts in the same organization.

Most females are not well educated and well civilized the position they occupy in some offices enhances low productivity

Though some males that are womanizers seduces females, sleeps with them before offering them jobs.

This is one of the organizational problems as many bosses that does such don’t have mouth to correct female workers when they are wrong.

In some professions like nursing females give more expert tender care than males.

So in a situation where there are no females certain expected cares are not met.

To avoid this challenges both males and females should be well trained and organizational norms followed in all offices.
