Art Inspires Me

Art Inspires Me by Amber F.

I am not the traditional student with little responsibility who has all the time in the world dedicated to studying. I am also not someone who does not care about their education or grades wasting mine and others time. I can tell you what I am… I am a mother, wife and a hard worker with goals and dreams. I am dedicated to my family but also my future. I have been a devoted student and will continue to be until I accomplish my goal.

First I want to mention my college background. I started college right after high school in 2007. The first year of college was paid for by my parents prior to the fall in economy and loss of their business. When my parents lost their business, I did not return to college as I was not aware of the financial assistance available to students. About 2 years later, I was informed of the assistance I could get such as Pell grants and loans, so I returned to school only using the Pell grant. At this time, I was working and supporting myself, so I could only go half time taking two classes each semester. For several years I continued to only take 2 classes every semester while working and starting a family. During the progress of my Associates degree I got married, had two beautiful children and moved across the state. After 5 long years and living in a different city, I was able to complete my AA degree with several semesters of being on the Dean’s or President’s list. I knew what I wanted to do and decided to continue my education working towards my bachelor’s degree.

I have always been interested in Art even as a child. I used to draw everything I saw and take art classes in every school. Even in elementary school I was dedicated to art and was involved in their art club. Numerous occasions I have entered art contests and proved my skill. I also have always been in love with animations and movies in general. The passion and skill I have with art combined with the love and fascination I have with movies have always lead me to the dream of being an animator/special effects artist. Therefore, after graduating with the AA degree I got accepted into a local University pursuing a bachelor’s in fine arts; digital media. After the dedicated work I have given to this University, I have realized it is conflicting with the schedule of my family life and therefore I have been searching for an online program to obtain my bachelor’s degree. Although many are appealing, I have found most online programs are expensive and therefore cost more than the University I initially started my degree at. I have been vigorously searching for assistance to continue my education. This is my dream and passion therefore I am determined to not give up! I do not want to give up, I have not given up thus far and I have accomplished so much already. This will accomplish my goal and give me the best opportunity for a career I could want and would love to help support my family.

Family has always been my inspiration. Whether it was seeing how hard my parents worked without an education or wanting a better future for my children. I could not have gotten as far as I have without family and they are what give me the drive to do better in my life. My grandmother was always proud of me and she was my biggest supporter and personal cheerleader. Unfortunately my grandmother passed away almost 2 years ago this November. It was a very tragic loss and almost caused me to give up on my goals and ambitions. She would always keep me motivated and tell me I can do anything as long as I try so with her no longer here I started to feel defeated and lost. Thankfully she got to see me graduate with my Associates but I only wish she could see me reach my goal. So now when I feel like giving up on my education I not only think about the impact it would have on my children but the fact that my grandmother would not want me to give up without a fight. My loving husband reminds me that she is still with me and would want me to continue to try and achieve my goals. Having 2 children looking up to me have become a huge inspiration in my life. They are full of imagination and love that they want to see me succeed. Just as much as I want them to succeed. In order to push my children into being the best they can be then I have to become the best version of myself first. I know they will be proud when their mother finally graduates with the degree I have worked so hard for and that is part of what keeps me going. Therefore I continue to push through all obstacles and not give up on my dreams. Everyone has one life and most have one dream, not all pursue theirs, but I have started to pursue mine which would be to complete my bachelor’s degree in a field I am passionate about. Not only is this an accomplishment for myself but it would show my children that no matter what I have been through I never gave up. It doesn’t matter if it took 2 years or 20… I still accomplished my goal. My children understanding that and being motivated from my actions, is the greatest accomplishment of all.
